Nominee's Background:
Gifford Pinchot III, grandson of the American conservationist by the same name, is a man of many interests. After earning an economics degree at Harvard, Pinchot sought to understand human social behavior in its complexity by studying sociology, biology, and neurophysiology at Johns Hopkins University. Told by successive academic advisors that he was in the wrong discipline, Pinchot took up a variety of careers, including dairy farming, blacksmithing, writing correspondence courses, and consulting. Somewhere in the mix, he stumbled upon sustainable business development. Co-founder and president of both Pinchot and Co. and the Bainbridge Graduate Institute (BGI) and author of the best-selling book Intrapreneuring: Why You Dont Have to Leave the Corporation to Become an Entrepreneur, Pinchots influence on business could one day prove as important as his grand- fathers influence on the creation and preservation of Americas public lands.
In 2002 Pinchot co-founded the Bainbridge Graduate Institute, offering a groundbreaking MBA in Sustainable business where students build a strong, cooperative learning community with each other, the faculty and staff.
