Backbone Campaign

We started the Chain Gang project in order to aid the growing impeachment efforts around the country. We believe that impeachment is not a political problem as many like to frame it, but rather a Constitutional obligation. Our Chain Gang costumes are available for use across the country, to provide a humorous face to our not-so-funny calls for Bush Administration accountability.

Get Involved!

Volunteer to build (Seattle area).
Contribute to shipping fund to move the characters around the country.
Organize a "Work Release" appearance. Entails coordinating transportation of heads, getting volunteers to wear the heads, and shipping to next location.

Your donation will help us build multiple sets of puppets and pay for their shipment to cities and towns around the country. Get the T-shirt and a bumper sticker with a minimum donation of $25, or just the bumper sticker for a minimum donation of $5. Call us if you'd like to order larger quantities for an event in your area.

Building the Chain Gang

We commissioned artists Bill Jarcho of Zambini Brothers who designed, sculpted and co-painted the heads with Clare Dohna who assisted on the sculpting, tirelessly lead the papier-maching and co-painted the heads.

For every set of heads built, many volunteers are necessary. Each character requires 6 layers of papier-mache, multiple coats of paint, mounting on helmets, the creation of shackels, chain, shipping containers, accompanying placards, etc.

The costumes were donated by November Coalition. Initial support came from Democrats.com, the Backbone Campaign, Cindy Sheehan, Mark Early, and others.
